The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2023, conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, took place on June 4th in two shifts. In this blog post, we will provide a comprehensive analysis of the first shift’s paper, focusing on the three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Paper Structure:
The paper consisted of 51 questions with 17 questions in each subject, making the total marks for Paper 1 equal to 180. Each subject was divided into four sections, with varying maximum marks for each section.
Mathematics Section:
Students found the Mathematics section to be particularly challenging. The questions were described as tricky and lengthy, especially those related to Vectors and 3D Geometry. Other topics covered in this section included Functions, Matrices, Ellipse, and Statistics & Probability. Although some questions were considered good from the chapters of Probability, Complex Numbers, 3-D Geometry, and Parabola, the overall consensus was that this section was the toughest.
Physics Section:
Physics, compared to the other two subjects, was generally considered easier by the students. The section included questions on Kinematics, Thermodynamics, Modern Physics, Capacitors, Current Electricity, Gravitation, Optics, and Electrostatics. These topics received more weightage in the exam.
Chemistry Section:
The Chemistry section received mixed response from students. Inorganic Chemistry had a few questions that were directly from the NCERT textbook. Topics like Chemical Kinetics, Ionic & Chemical Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, and Atomic Structure were all addressed in the Physical Chemistry questions. There were multiple questions on Thermodynamics. In Organic Chemistry, questions primarily focused on Amines, Polymers, Biomolecules, Oxygen-containing Compounds, and some named reactions. The section included mixed concept questions and was rated as moderate difficulty. Organic Chemistry received more weightage in this section.
Final Thoughts:
The JEE Advanced 2023 Shift 1 exam paper presented students with diverse challenges in the three core subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. While Mathematics proved to be the toughest section, Physics was relatively easier, and Chemistry showcased a mix of balanced and unbalanced questions across its various branches. As students strive for success in this prestigious entrance examination, a comprehensive understanding of these subject areas is crucial.
