The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) marked the beginning of a new academic journey for the undergraduate batch of 2024 with a comprehensive orientation event held on August 3. This year, over 500 students from across India joined the institute, including more than 25 percent female students. In addition to the main cohort, 21 preparatory students, comprising 13 male and 8 female students, also participated in the orientation.
Induction Programme for Smooth Transition
The orientation introduced the new students to an induction program designed to provide an overview of the academic environment and set clear expectations. This faculty-mentored initiative is crafted to assist students in transitioning smoothly from school to college life, enhancing their skills and competencies while emphasizing the societal impact of engineering.
The week-long induction program at IIT Mandi is aimed at equipping students with the tools they need to succeed both academically and in extracurricular activities. One of the program’s highlights is its focus on the holistic development of students. Activities planned for the week include yoga sessions, a trek to Kandi Peak, a nature walk along Arnehar Road, and a freshers’ athletics meet. Moreover, the Art of Living team will conduct sessions to help students manage stress and improve overall well-being.
Key Topics and Discussions
Throughout the orientation, students will also engage in discussions on crucial topics such as anti-ragging policies, drug abuse prevention, cybersecurity, gender sensitization, and clinical hypnotherapy aimed at ego strengthening and boosting self-esteem.
Diverse Academic Offerings
Students will pursue four-year BTech degrees in disciplines such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Physics, General Engineering, Bioengineering, Microelectronics & VLSI, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, and Data Science. Additionally, a four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Sciences is available.
The institute is also introducing a five-year integrated MBA program for the first time, offering a BBA in Analytics (Honors) and an MBA in Data Science and AI, beginning with this batch.
