WORLD ANIMAL WELFARE DAY
World Animal Welfare Day was started at a convention of geologists in Florence, Italy in the year 1931. An effort to take a deeper look into the living standards and struggles for the endangered species. October 4 was annually chosen to celebrate this day because of the feast day of St Francis of Assisi. In 2003, the first World Animal Day website was launched by the Naturewatch Foundation which is a UK-based animal welfare charity.
Naturewatch Foundation needs a special mention as it is a small charity and financial support for World Animal Day which provides aid at various levels of animal welfare
Animal lovers come together on this day and make an effective difference in the lives of these special creations of God. We live a life of co-existence which need not necessarily pertain to humans alone. A peaceful environment comprises all living beings who deserve all the care and compassion just like how we humans do. And this makes a huge number of stray animals that have been abused, ill-treated, and left to die.
In our country, we get to see an end number of strays like dogs, cows, buffaloes, and even pigs. It is definitely the planning that needs to be extremely effective, via the government, but we as the citizens should do our bit by taking baby steps in order to bring about a slow and steady yet magnanimous change in the lives of these voiceless creatures. And this cannot be done just by sheer dialogue but literal action towards the betterment of our wildlife.
We can start by getting in touch with the local NGO that has the infrastructure to take effective steps. We can get the strays, dogs, for instance, vaccinated for major health issues while the females can be sterilized in order to stop the multiplication. In other cases where the litter is normally any number from 6 to 8 and even more at times, can be moved with the mother to a dog shelter so that care is taken and they are basically in a safe environment.
Though sadly enough there are people who have a genuine hatred for these strays and it has also been seen that leave aside feeding them or taking care of them, they want the poor things to just be thrown out of their sight. Now imagine a few healthy puppies, vanish overnight! Well, it happens all the time. Many a time they are poisoned while other times they are just chucked out of the premises and left to die.
Such acts should not be supported because if you are born as a human you are undoubtedly more capable and independent. So all that is expected of you is to have a heart! If you cant give love then at least don’t spread hatred.
