This branch deals with how from the small polymer chips or fibre, we get thread and finally the textile fabric, besides these we look at developments in textile industry in terms of machinery and other things. Courses involve mostly chemistry which involves more of cramming part and a little bit of understanding. The courses are quite easy and if you are good at cramming then you will score good.

Textile Technology is generally filled the last in IIT Delhi so if you have option you should choose something better like Civil (except Biotech in case you don’t like Biology, or you don’t want to invest 5 years).

But if you have no option then remember IITD is itself good as a brand. You get better than any other IIT except Bombay. We had 18 Day1 companies here and only 12 in Kanpur.

If you want to the technical side of the department, be assured, there exists none. So, if anyone is interested in core, stay away from textile. Labs, professors and the department organizations are not good.

But if you have no option -take it for the brand. Study for 2 years, get a decent CGPA. Put in some decent positions of responsibility and extra curriculum and get a non-core Day 1 job. If you can do this, the department is great.

You can also try for a department change but for that you will have to work really very hard.

So, the conclusion is:

Interested in core: No textile

Interested in Delhi exposure: Yes textile

Interested in non-core job: Department doesn’t matter. You will get a job with hard work.

Want to learn something as far as engineering is concerned: No textile

Want to learn something about life (as in get some awesome exposure): Yes textile (primarily yes IITD)

Have other options in IITD (except Biotech): No textile
