“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

– Michael Jordan

Failure is all about embracing storms and falling in love with our own vicious winds. It’s brave that how hard we all are striving towards our goals; how we get up in the morning even though our soul is weary and our bones aches for rest; how we break and bend but still we rise and start; how we push away the waves rolling and yet decide to fight every day. There are days when we feel like giving up but it’s brave that we never do.

Nothing is truer than the fact that no great success was ever achieved with failure. From Michael Jordan’s 9000 missed shots to Edison’s 10,000 attempts to create a light bulb, from Dyson’s 5,126 efforts to invent a bagless vacuum cleaner to J.K. Rowling being rejected numerous times for the publication of Harry Potter, each great personality lies and rises on the bed of failures.

Failures are nothing but just the learnings of life. You cannot ever learn anything by winning; for it’s the failures which acts as the rainbow of lessons in our lives. Below are few steps that could help you embrace failures and see it as nothing but as a strength.

• Acknowledge failure: Failures are inevitable. Life would be boring without roadblocks that pop up from time to time. After a dark tunnel is a beam of sunlight waiting to wrap you in its arms, similarly, failures are only the lessons learnt to the path of success. Acknowledge it.

Try your best to move on: When the dust settles, it’s important to hold your head up and try again and again, until you’ve attained what you want. From Thomas Edison to Walt Disney, there’s no dearth of famous failures. Learn from them. Learn from people who have failed greatly only to have achieved greatly. And just know that many successful people continue to fail habitually.

• Embrace your emotions. Failure is often escorted by a diversity of emotions including, embarrassment, anxiety, anger, sadness, and shame. Accept your feelings. Feel bad, cry all you want but when you’re done, make sure you get the grind going.

• Be kind to yourself: You should be your biggest cheerleader, irrespective of the circumstances. Having great levels of self-compassion will not only keep you motivated all through life, but will also add on a zeal of enthusiasm to live life.

• Celebrate failure: Failure helps us live a beautiful, bona-fide, purposeful and a courageous life- and that begins with realising who you are, what you want and what is in your way. Embrace your failure, whether it is one failure or many failures, because with the right attitude and a willingness to learn from your mistakes, you are guaranteed a lifetime of success. And always remember the eternal saying that “Failure is the pillar of success”.. Only when you stumble , falter, your passion to gain success will be more and more ignited.

Predictably, you will encounter failure in the quest of success. In fact, you will probably fail more times than you will succeed. But through the depths, you’ll find the rise. You just have to keep trying. The opportunity you’ve been waiting for is right across and it’s closer than you think, so don’t give up! And just know that, “Waves are inspiring, not because they rise and fall but because every time they fall they do not fail to rise again.”
