Biology consists of 90 questions which clearly means that half of the total NEET exam questions comes from this subject which evidently tells that how important it is to have a specific approach while preparing for Biology for NEET UG.
Firstly, it is significant to know that Biology is the easiest but also the lengthiest section in NEET. Not only that, it entails with it plethora of information therefore, it also demands oodles of revision in contrary to other subjects. Undoubtedly, it’s imperative to focus on few yet authentic and relevant book which makes the revision easier and results in maximum remembrance power.
More often than not, biology segment seems a bit more understandable to majority of the NEET aspirants which allows students to go into depths of the subject which is seldom required. Thus, avoid wasting time and have a strategy while devoting good amount of time on other subjects as well, as they contribute equally in the selection of exam.
Secondly, practice is the key. So, practice questions from authentic sources like NCERT, VMC Medical Modules of Biology, Wiley’s Publication, etc. Many online and offline platforms contain questions which are not at all related to the syllabus, therefore, it is advised to evade losing your precious time and energy, rather dedicate it to the subjects like Physics and Chemistry. Know your syllabus well before relying on any source. You can find the same in previous year’s NEET brochure of 2020.
Thirdly, have a sharp presence of mind. It’s vital to read the questions thoroughly prior to attempting them while both preparing and giving the exam. Even the slightest error in the words like ‘not’ or ‘not too’ or fault while going through the options provided, could result in the change in the answer. It seems that the students attempt Biology in the first hour in the final NEET exam as the mind is fresh and psychologically, the concentration power is quite high in the initial 40 minutes. Henceforth, stay calm and devoid of being in a hurry.
Fourthly, try to remember the years of invention and the numbers of particular things like biodiversity park hotspot areas, exceptions and examples given in your NCERT book by making notes of such information on one or two pages in the notebook. You should use mnemonic for types of information. Do remember some topics in Biology section like molecular basis of inheritance and evolution which needs more time to understand, therefore devote specific time needed for such topics. Most significantly and if possible, draw all the diagrams of Biology book in your notebook by your hand, so that you are able to attempt the questions which are diagram based with more accuracy and believe me, it will also make your concepts stronger. On the same line, it’s good to practice the questions with the timer at your side.
Lastly, don’t get over confident. Focus on some of the important and most commonly asked topics in NEET which are: Cell, Human Reproduction, Reproductive Health Digestion and Breathing from Zoology section, Plant Respiration, Biological Classification, Molecular Basis of Inheritance and Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants from Botany section, detailed analysis of previous years’ papers and patterns.
