Over the past few years, the institute has witnessed fluctuations in placement percentages and variations in sector-wise recruitment trends. IIT Dhanbad’s Journey:

IIT Dhanbad, formerly known as the Indian School of Mines, has a rich history dating back to its establishment by the British Indian Government. It was modeled after the Royal School of Mines in London and was officially inaugurated on December 9, 1926, by Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India. Over the years, this institute has grown in stature and now stands as a prestigious public technical university.

Placement Statistics Over the Years:

Let’s take a closer look at the placement statistics at IIT Dhanbad over the past few years:

2019-20:

In this academic year, a total of 756 students participated in the placement process, with 71.03 percent of them successfully securing placements.

2020-21:

The number of participating students increased to 784, and a total of 555 students from the UG four-year programs were placed. Although the placement percentage remained fairly consistent, at 71 percent, it marked a slight dip.

2021-22:

A remarkable surge was witnessed in the placement percentage, which soared to 88 percent. Out of 811 students who took part in the placement season, 716 were successfully placed.

2022-23:

However, in the following academic year, there was a minor setback, with the placement percentage dropping to 85.53 percent. A total of 662 students out of 774 secured placements.

IT Sector’s Dominance:

One of the most intriguing aspects of IIT Dhanbad’s placement journey is the dominance of the Information Technology (IT) sector. In each of the years since 2019, the IT sector has consistently secured the lion’s share of placements.

2019-20:

The IT sector claimed a significant 28.3 percent share of placements.

2020-21:

The sector’s influence continued to grow, with its share increasing to 32 percent.

2021-22:

While the IT sector briefly took a step back with a 23 percent share, it quickly rebounded in the subsequent year.

2022-23:

In the most recent placement season, the IT sector once again showcased its prominence, with a 26 percent share.

Core Sector’s Resilience:

While the IT sector has been the undisputed leader in placement percentages, the core sector has also maintained its presence in the recruitment landscape at IIT Dhanbad.

2020-21:

The core sector held a substantial 25 percent share, demonstrating its robust position.

2021-22:

There was a slight dip in the core sector’s share, with it claiming 14 percent of placements.

2022-23:

The core sector made a strong comeback, securing 24 percent of the placements.

Changing Trends:

Interestingly, the finance sector, which was the second most popular sector in 2019-20 with an 18.87 percent share, has witnessed fluctuations in subsequent years. This highlights the dynamic nature of recruitment trends and the adaptability of IIT Dhanbad in responding to industry demands.
