IIT Madras has launched a new online Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Systems. Through study.iitm.ac.in/es/, the official IIT Madras website, interested applicants can now apply for this new program.
Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education, introduced this new curriculum. This is the second online bachelor’s program offered by IIT Madras, following a Data and Application Science degree with currently over 17,000 enrolled students.
According to IIT Madras, the program will have variable outcomes, allowing students to graduate with a certificate or diploma, or to complete the entire course and obtain a degree. The aim of the course is to meet the growing demand for qualified graduates in the Indian electronics and embedded manufacturing industry.
According to the institute, the cost of the BS in Electronic Systems program would be reasonable and additional scholarships would be awarded to students who fall under the SC/ST/PwD category as well as those whose families earn less than Rs 5 lakh annually to ensure inclusion.
What are the eligibility criteria?
The only admission requirement for this program is that the applicant must have studied math and physics as part of their 12th grade, regardless of age (or equivalent).
Applicants do not require a JEE score for this program; Instead, they can qualify for the position through the four-week process already in place. The proficiency test includes only the information that the trainers of the IIT Madras have conveyed to the candidates over a period of four weeks. According to the institute, the candidates will receive sufficient support in the form of live lectures and discussion forums during this period.
There is no cap on the number of seats available in the program, therefore anyone who achieves the minimum required score on the qualification exam may continue.
After passing the board examination this year, students attending 12th grade in 2023 can also apply, be admitted and enroll in the course. Professionals or students currently enrolled in another university program may also apply and develop their skills in this area (where permitted by applicable UGC regulations).
How will the course be structured?
While the course material would be offered online, tests and exams would be administered in person. In addition, personally supervised proficiency tests are offered at more than 150 locations in Germany and abroad.
The curriculum includes a mix of theory and laboratory courses taught by IIT Madras teachers and industry experts. Lessons also include reading material, weekly quizzes, tutorials, and interactive question-solving sessions that can be completed online. The internships require a stay of about two weeks per quarter at the IIT Madras.
“In order to turn this ecosystem into a global hotspot, the Indian government is advocating sound policy reform through programs such as the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI).” We are happy and proud that the Director of IIT Madras is always ready. The government’s commitment to this digital environment is reflected in this year’s budget. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also told IIT Madras that this course will set a new standard for all other major universities and companies.
