The forces, army, navy, and airforce, are the pride of India. It is amongst the most glorious and respected of professions that one can ever opt for. It requires grit and dedication to be an honorable part of this very prestigious platform.
Each year, 8th October is celebrated as Indian Air Force Day. This tag was officially raised as the supporting force of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom, way back in 1932. Each year the IAF chief and senior officials of the three-armed forces come together and observe this day with utmost love and vigor. It is almost considered a festival.
It is a day to honor and uphold the many personnel, both men and women, who have courageously and passionately upheld our nation’s air strength. It is a role that requires immense responsibility and personal compassion for the services.
We have always been inspired and guided by the ideologies laid down by the Bhagavad Gita and Mahabharata. And the motto of the Indian Air Force too has been derived from the Eleventh Chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, Touch The Sky With Glory. The discourse that emerged between Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra during Mahabharata.
Indian Air Force has various cadres or positions in their entirety. Though the official sanction by The Standing Committee on Defence for the strength of squadrons is 42, currently 35 active squadrons have been appointed.
The Indian Air Force holds the 4th position amongst all the Air Forces of the world. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict.
Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee OBE (5 March 1911 – 8 November 1960), was the first Indian Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Indian Air Force. His career spanned almost three decades and had been awarded many honors until his untimely demise in 1960. He has been called the “Father of the Indian Air Force”.
