On January 30, 2023, the JEE (Main) Paper-I for candidates seeking admission to B.E. or B. Tech programs was held.
JEE Main Paper-1 had a total of 90 questions and a total score of 300. Each subject required students to attempt five out of ten questions from the numerical-based component. Nearly every chapter of the Class XI and XII CBSE Board was covered in the questions. It was a balanced paper.
The paper had three parts & each part had two sections:
- There were a total of 30 questions in Part I of the Physics exam; of those, only 5 had to be answered correctly on the 20 multiple-choice questions in Section I and the 10 numerical-based questions in Section II. For multiple choice questions, the marking scheme was +4 for a correct answer, -1 for a wrong answer, and 0 if the question wasn’t even attempted. For numerically based questions, the marking scheme was +4 for the right answer, -1 for the wrong answer, and 0 in all other circumstances. This section received 100 points in total.
- Chemistry Part II contained a total of 30 questions, of which just 5 had to be attempted. Section I had 20 multiple-choice questions with single correct answers, and Section II had 10 numerical-based questions. For multiple choice questions, the marking scheme was +4 for the right answer, -1 for the wrong answer, and 0 if the question wasn’t even attempted. For questions with a numerical answer, the marking method was +4 for the right answer, -1 for the wrong answer, and 0 in all other circumstances. There were 100 total points for this section.
- Mathematical Section III included a total of 30 questions, of which only 5 had to be attempted. Section I featured 20 multiple-choice questions with one correct answer, while Section II had 10 numerical-based questions.
The degree of difficulty as determined by student’s feedback as of January 30, 2023 (Afternoon Session).
Math: Moderately Difficult Level. Algebra and coordinate geometry chapters received weight. Defining Integrals, Area, Differential Equations, Matrices, Probability, Determinants, Vectors, 3D Geometry, the Binomial Theorem, Complex Numbers, and Progression Series were among the topics covered in the questions. Long calculations were necessary for both MCQs and numerically based problems. Some pupils felt that this segment was lengthy and difficult.
Level of Physics: Moderate. Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Heat and Thermodynamics, SHM and Waves, Current Electricity, Electrostatics, AC Circuits, Modern Physics, Semi-Conductors, and Magnetism chapters received the most weight. Mathematical questions were rated as being simple. Though balanced, this section contained many difficult questions.
Easy to Moderate level for chemistry. Compared to physical chemistry, inorganic and organic chemistry have more. In organic chemistry, emphasis is placed on alcohols, ethers, phenols, and aryl and alkyl halides. Chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, ionic equilibrium, and the mole concept. Environmental chemistry, chemical bonding, everyday life chemistry, and metallurgy were all topics covered in questions for inorganic chemistry.
Math was moderately difficult, although physics was moderate, and chemistry was easy to moderate level. According to the students, this paper was overall above the Moderate level.
JEE Main 2023 shift 2 paper analysis by Vidyamandir Classes (VMC)
Physics: – The Physics paper of shift 2 January 30, had questions from Modern physics, semiconductor, optics, and EM waves.
Chemistry: – The Chemistry question paper had questions from IOC, periodic table, chemical bonding, and qualitative analysis.
Mathematics: – The mathematics section was lengthy, and tough compared to JEE 2022. Questions were asked from vector & 3D conic section and especially from integers.
Vidyamandir Classes (VMC) is the market leader in JEE/NEET test preparation. Vidyamandir Classes has prioritized giving students the best coaching while maintaining the standards required to pass entrance exams like the JEE, NEET, and others.
