Even though, in no respect an exam could fathom your boundless self, it is in some manner or the other, one of the foremost criteria to select the desired candidates for the suitable spot.
With an aim of fostering and encouraging students to pursue research career in Science, “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” (KVPY) was commenced by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

The objective of the program is to aid students to recognise their potential and to assure that the best of the best talent is nurtured for research and development in the field of science.

  • Exam Mode: The aptitude test will be conducted through online (Computer Based Test) mode.
  • Date & Shift: It will be organised on 7th November 2021.
    • Stream SA: The exam will be from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
    • Stream SB/SX: The exam will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
  • Medium of Question Paper: The question paper will be both in English & Hindi Language.
  • Type of Questions: It is a multiple choice type question paper. All the questions are compulsory to attempt in stream SA. There is an option to attempt any three sections in Part I & any two sections in Part II in Stream SB/SX.
  • Duration of Exam: Three hours
  • Sections: The question paper will contain two sections: Part I & Part II, having four sections each.
  • Total Marks: The question paper will consist of 100 marks.
  • Marking Scheme: The question papers of Stream SA & Stream SB/SX will be of 100 marks.
    • In Part I of both the Stream, one mark will be awarded for correct response and 0.25 marks will be deducted for an incorrect response.
    • In Part II of Stream SA and Stream SB/SX, for each correct response, two marks will be given to the candidates & 0.5 marks will be deducted for incorrect answers.


Eligibility Criteria

  • KVPY Fellowships are given to Indian Nationals to study in India.
  • Stream SA: Due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, as one-time measure, students who have passed X Standard Board Examination and eligible to enrol in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2021-22, are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. The student should produce a study certificate of XI class once they are selected as a provisional KVPY fellow. Moreover, the fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (B. Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Math./ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2023-24 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE Subjects in the XII Standard Board Examination. During the interim period of one year, they will be invited for the National Science Camp (Vijyoshi) and their travel expenses and local hospitality will be met by KVPY.
  • Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2021–22 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Maths/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.) during the academic year 2022–23. The Fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (B.Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Maths/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2022-23 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects in the XII standard Board Examination.
  • Stream SB: Students who have passed XII Board Examination and eligible to enrol in the 1st year of B. Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Maths/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. during the academic year 2021–22 is eligible to appear for the aptitude test. The student should produce a study certificate of 1st year B. Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Maths/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. once they are selected as a provisional KVPY fellow. Moreover, the fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join an undergraduate program in Basic Science (B. Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Maths/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2021-22 and secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science Subjects in 1st year of B.Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Maths/Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.

Selection Process

  • Aptitude Test: After having had met the eligibility criteria for various streams, candidates will be called for aptitude test. Furthermore, the test will be conducted both in Hindi and English at different centres throughout the country on Sunday, November 7, 2021.
  • The KVPY Fellowship 2021 will be awarded solely based on aptitude test without the interview, considering the covid-19 pandemic.

  • Last date for closing of online Application: 25th August 2021 
  • KVPY Aptitude Test: 7th November 2021

  • Basic Sciences
    • SA/SX/SB: During 1st to 3rd years of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math. /Integrated M.Sc. /M.S.
      • Monthly Fellowship: Rs. 5000/-
      • Annual Contingency Grant: Rs. 2000/-
    • SA/SX/SB: During M.Sc./4th to 5th years of Integrated M.Sc. /M.S./M.Math./M.Stat.
      • Monthly Fellowship: Rs. 7000/-
      • Annual Contingency Grant: Rs. 28000/-
