It is truly believed that” Our flag does not fly because of the wind. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it”. India celebrates December 16 as Vijay Diwas to commemorate its victory over Pakistan during the India-Pakistan War culminated on this day 50 years ago as East Pakistan ceased to exist that also led to the birth of Bangladesh. The day is also observed in Bangladesh as ‘Bijoy Dibos’.

The thirteen-day war resulted in the Pakistan army surrendering before India with around 93,000 soldiers. General Niazi (the Pakistani Army’s commander in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh)) accepted the surrender documents on the evening of December 16 and the war was officially won by India. This is why the day is known as Vijay Diwas and is commemorated every year because of our superheroes.

A real hero is someone whose ultimate sacrifice is to lay down his life for God, family, and country. Countless soldiers have charged into battle, knowing they wouldn’t return to their loved ones and might never be laid to rest in their native soil. Yet they took the risk, fought hard to the end, and hoped their efforts would turn the tide toward victory. They made the ultimate sacrifice for their fellow soldiers, for their country, for you, and for me. May God bless them eternally. It was well said by Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel “Every citizen of India must remember that he is an Indian and he has every right in this country but with certain duties”.

On this special day, this year, to mark the victory of the Indian Army in 1971 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has participated in the Homage & Reception Ceremony of Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’s at the National War Memorial on 16 December 2021 at around 10:30 AM.

Also, President Ram Nath Kovind is in Dhaka on a maiden three-day State Visit during which he will hold talks with his counterpart and attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh’s 1971 independence from Pakistan.

He also met PM Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday and gifted her cakes, sweetmeats, and biscuits specially made at Rashtrapati Bhavan. According to Dhaka Tribune, Bangladeshi State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam said that PM Hasina gladly receives the sweetmeats, cakes, and biscuits from the President. Kovind, on the other hand, shared his delight over mangoes sent by Hasina back in July and said that those were “very sweet and tasty”.

In a reflection of close ties, India is also hosting a number of events to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1971 India-Pakistan war that led to the liberation of Bangladesh.

Simultaneously, let’s pay our tribute to all the real heroes of our country to remember the gallant efforts and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces. For our tomorrow, they gave their today.  In the face of impossible odds, let’s be the one who loves this country and who can change it. Saluting India! Where each bud blooms in its true colors, where each day is a celebration of Unity, Harmony, and Synthesis.  Happy Vijay Diwas!
