Scholarships are awarded on a quarterly basis, depending on applications received during the previous quarter. Additionally, an advance copy of the application must be submitted online via the NHFDC website (nhfdc.nic.in).
  • Financial Support:
    • Fee Reimbursement: Non-refundable fees are reimbursed up to the limit of fees for similar courses in government or government-aided institutions.
    • Maintenance Allowance: Students pursuing professional graduate courses receive ₹2,500 per month, while those pursuing professional postgraduate courses receive ₹3,000 per month for a period of 10 months each academic year.
    • Books/Stationery Allowance: Students pursuing professional graduate courses are granted ₹6,000 per annum, whereas postgraduate students receive ₹10,000 per annum.
    • Aids and Appliances: Differently-abled students receive additional financial assistance for the purchase of necessary aids and appliances, which is provided once in a lifetime.
    • Income Requirement: The student’s family’s annual total income, including that of their parents or guardians, cannot exceed ₹3,00,000.
    • Exclusive Benefit: Students availing this scholarship are not eligible for any other scholarships or stipends during their course of study.

b. Scholarships Scheme (National Fund)

  • Overview: This scheme offers 500 scholarships annually to students with disabilities pursuing higher academic, professional, or technical qualifications.
  • Application Process: Students must apply online through the NHFDC website. Scholarships under this scheme are awarded once per academic year.
  • Financial Support:
    • Hosteller Allowance: Students residing in hostels receive ₹1,000 per month for professional courses at the graduate level and above. For Diploma/Certificate level courses, the allowance is ₹700 per month.
    • Day Scholar Allowance: Day scholars receive ₹700 per month for professional courses at the graduate level and above, and ₹400 per month for Diploma/Certificate level courses.
    • Course Fee Reimbursement: Course fees are reimbursed up to a maximum of ₹10,000 per year.
    • Special Assistance: Financial support is available for purchasing computers with editing software for blind/deaf students pursuing graduate and postgraduate professional courses. Additionally, support access software is provided for students with cerebral palsy.
    • Income Criteria: The annual family income, including the income of parents or guardians, should not exceed ₹1,80,000.
    • Exclusive Benefit: Similar to the Trust Fund scheme, students receiving this scholarship cannot avail of any other scholarships or stipends concurrently.

2. National Fellowship and Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe Students to Pursue Higher Education

This scholarship scheme aims to provide financial support to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, enabling them to pursue higher education beyond the postgraduate level. The scholarship covers courses such as MPhil and PhD, helping students achieve their academic aspirations.

  • Course Duration:
    • MPhil: 2 years or until the submission of the dissertation, whichever is earlier.
    • MPhil + PhD: A total of 5 years or until the submission of the dissertation, whichever is earlier.
    • PhD: 5 years or until the submission of the dissertation, whichever is earlier.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have completed their postgraduate degree with a minimum of 55% marks.
    • Institutional Requirement: Students should be enrolled in universities recognized under the specified category.
