In a bid to offer a lifeline to students who narrowly missed the mark in their CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has unveiled the schedule for supplementary exams slated to kick off on July 15, 2024.
Emerging from the aftermath of the recently declared results, a significant number of students find themselves categorized as supplementary candidates, with over 1,32,000 individuals from Class 10 and more than 122,000 from Class 12. This move aligns with the progressive approach advocated by the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, which ushered in the renaming of compartment exams as supplementary exams, emphasizing a more inclusive and supportive educational framework.
Spearheading this initiative, CBSE Examination Controller, Sanyam Bhardwaj, elucidated the contours of the supplementary exams. Class 12 students are granted the opportunity to bolster their performance in one subject, while their counterparts in Class 10 can endeavor to improve in two subjects, thereby offering a pathway to academic enhancement.
The eligibility criteria for the supplementary exams encompass a spectrum of scenarios. It includes Class 10 students who faltered in two subjects, Class 12 students who stumbled in one subject and found themselves consigned to the compartment category, as well as those who secured a passing grade by substituting a sixth or seventh subject. Furthermore, students from both classes who achieved a pass mark but aspire to augment their performance in one or two subjects are also eligible to partake in these supplementary assessments.
Despite the overarching theme of redemption, the recently declared board results showcased a commendable performance. The Class 12 board witnessed a pass percentage surge of 0.65, culminating in an overall pass rate of 87.98%, while the Class 10 cohort exhibited a 0.48% increase, with 93.60% of students clearing the examination. Interestingly, in the Class 10 segment, girls outshone boys by a margin of 2.04 percentage points, underscoring the growing trend of gender parity in academic accomplishments.
