“You can motivate by fear, and you can motivate by reward. But both those methods are only temporary. The only lasting thing is self-motivation.”

Homer Rice

It is fairly common that the greater the motivation you have for your dreams, the sooner you’ll accomplish them. But, the matter of the real concern is that a large number of people find it really hard to wake up early, go the extra mile, and achieve their dreams considerably faster. The said things aren’t special skills per se, in fact, anybody can wake up in the morning as early as they want to. Anybody can go from being an average student to a high performer in quite short period of time. The major challenge is not the grade of desire that the students need to have in order to attain their goals but, the problem is the drive of desire towards external motivation. External motivation is when you’re working for the materialistic things be it for the car, house or lavish lifestyle. That said, materialism isn’t something to get rid of but it is unreasonable to have extrinsic motivation as your primary source of motivation. The motivation that you get from anything outside yourself can often make you greedy and leave you with a sense of desolation and dissatisfaction.

And this is why internal motivation is the main key to the well-sustained motivation lock. It is something that is profound and ever-lasting- being the plausible reasons for you to work in and out every moment.

Below are few steps that could fuel your intrinsic motivation:

  • Aim: All the students who score top ranks in competitive exams have one thing in common i.e., they have an underlying aim that motivates and keep them going. While they may work hard and get external rewards, but there is a hidden emotional factor from within that ignites and excites their soul to do something extraordinary.

  • The desire to succeed: As Napolean Hill rightly said, “The starting point of all achievement is desire.” Desire to succeed alone can be the most influential yet fundamental trigger for you to keep thriving every day. And even if everything within you succumbs, the burning desire in you will ignite all the circumstances leading to your victory.

  • Proficiency: It’s quite imperative to be proficient in the skills that will propel you towards your goals. Proficiency is probably one of the most significant internal motivators for it is perpetual, it would want you to be better every single day, it will enable you towards your aim until it’s conquered.

Once your internal motivators are in line, you’ll be amazed at the amount of hard work you are willing to put and the extents to which you would want to go to achieve your goals.
