With the passage of time, it became clear that people needed to be made aware of and educated about the ever-present threat of corruption. As a corollary, December 09 was created to commemorate the importance of a world free of corruption on a global scale. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) are the two principal champions of this cause.
This year’s theme for this amazing crime-fighting day is “Your right, your role: Say no to Corruption.” In this hour of crisis, we must all come together and share responsibility for promoting resilience and integrity at all levels of society.
Corruption has become so entrenched in our systems that it will take a long time to dissipate. Everyone should get access to equal opportunities be it in the job industry or school or any other field. There is sheer havoc in the world in the name of corruption. The duplicity leads to human degradation that eventually leads to disaster. It can be the total annihilation of wealth, respect, or worse, the humanity!
We can recall, one such moment that changed Indian history for good. When on April 05, 2011, at the Jantar Mantar monument in New Delhi, protester Anna Hazare began a hunger strike. The Jan Lokpal Bill was introduced as part of the campaign to combat corruption in the Indian government. Whether or not a Lokpal can rein in the corruption monster, the reality remains that a single person like Anna Hazare had the potential to move and shake the government of a big country like India.
Everything can be achieved with the effective simplicity of worthwhile dialogue. There is no need to get corrupt in thought and actions. If the reigns of this country were in the hands of the corrupt, we would not have been where we are today. Despite dis-taste in certain areas, the overall well-being of our nation is in good hands. In order to improve India as a nation, the effort has to come from each and every individual/citizen. We should display in our actions, thoughts, deeds the changes that we expect from our nation’s caretakers. But if we begin to resort to short-cuts to extract cash from people, or be corrupt in our mindset, how will we ever be able to create a haven as a nation?
The youth of our country who are academically driven and want to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others need that honest support from not just their parents/community, but as a nation. Their drive and passion to make it big in life should not die because of negative influences. If the growth of our youth gets stunted, it will eventually lead to a very underdeveloped nation!
so let us spread the energies of absolute love, sincerity, and truthfulness, and watch our nation blossom like never before!
