JoSAA Counselling 2024 is in full swing, overseeing the allocation of nearly 59,917 seats across 121 esteemed institutes including the IITs and NITs throughout India. Recently, the second round of seat allotment results has been unveiled, marking a crucial phase for aspiring students.
Online Reporting and Document Verification
Students who have received seat allotments in the second round are required to complete online reporting by 5 pm on July 1. It is imperative that all uploaded documents meet the specified requirements; any deficiencies must be addressed promptly. Failure to respond to document queries by 5 pm on July 3 may result in the cancellation of the allotted seat.
For students who have been allotted seats from IITs to NITs or vice versa in the second round, there will be a dual verification process. This involves re-verifying the documents originally uploaded during the first round of seat allotment against the newly assigned seat. Once this process is successfully completed, the newly allotted seat will be confirmed.
Conversely, students who opted for the float or slide options and have been re-allotted seats within the same category (IIT to IIT or NIT to NIT) in the second round will have their new seats confirmed based on previously verified documents. These students do not need to upload their documents again during the online reporting.
Counseling Options: Float, Slide, and Freeze
Throughout the counseling process, students have the flexibility to adjust their choices between float, slide, and freeze options. This allows them to either retain their current seat (freeze), explore upward movement (slide), or keep their options open for further rounds (float).
Seat Withdrawal and Refund Process
Students may choose to withdraw from the counseling process following the second round of seat allocation. To do so, they must provide the reasons for their decision to JoSAA. Valid reasons include expectations regarding college or branch allocation, acceptance of admission elsewhere (excluding IITs and NITs) in 2024, or intentions to appear for the JEE Main exam again in 2025.
The deadline for seat withdrawal extends until the fourth round of counseling. Upon withdrawal, a counseling processing fee of Rs 5,000 will be deducted, and the remainder of the fee will be refunded to the student.
Semester Start Dates at IITs
The commencement dates for the first semester classes across various IITs have been announced. The academic session kicks off on July 22 at IIT Delhi, followed by IIT Guwahati on July 25, IIT Indore on July 26, and subsequent dates for other institutes. The last to commence will be IIT Gandhinagar on August 19, marking the culmination of the initial semester start-ups.
