The Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) has recently unveiled the eagerly awaited final merit list for MBBS/BDS admissions, encompassing 85% of the state quota seats. This pivotal step brings over 4200 qualified candidates one step closer to their dream of pursuing medical education. The medical counselling process commenced on the 20th of July and is set to continue until the 30th of September. In this blog, we will delve into the key highlights of the OJEE final merit list and the crucial aspects that candidates and aspirants need to be aware of.

Odisha’s Unique Approach to Medical Admissions:

The OJEE authorities are tasked with managing 85% of the allocation for MBBS/BDS seats in the state, while the Medical Council Committee (MCC) under the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs will handle the remaining 15% of the all-India quota. This dual system ensures that both local and national candidates have equitable opportunities for admission.

NEET-UG 2023 Qualifiers and Registration Process:

Candidates who qualified in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2023 have already registered for the Odisha state medical counselling. It is important to note that only natives of Odisha are eligible for the state quota seats. Candidates from other states can exclusively apply for the non-resident Indian (NRI) quota seats.

Seat Allocation and Reservation:

Out of the total available MBBS/BDS seats in dental and medical colleges across Odisha, OJEE is responsible for assigning 85%, while the MCC will oversee the allocation of the remaining 15% through the all-India quota. The 15% all-India quota seats are further reserved for the NRI quota within private dental and medical colleges.

Counselling Process and Timelines:

Praveen Kumar Kar, the Chairman of OJEE, announced that the counselling process for the state quota medical seats will begin soon after considering the counselling process of the MCC. The final seat matrix for medical colleges in Odisha will be released shortly, providing candidates with a comprehensive overview of the available seats and choices.

Medical College Overview:

Odisha boasts 1800 seats across 11 state government medical colleges and 2 private medical colleges, as well as an additional 500 seats across 2 universities. The OJEE will conduct counselling for 85% of the 1800 MBBS seats available in the 2 private medical colleges and 11 government colleges in Odisha.

New Opportunities: Saheed Renjo Majhi Medical Hospital and College:

In a positive development, the Saheed Renjo Majhi Medical Hospital and College at Bhawanipatna has been granted permission by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to conduct admissions for the 2023-24 academic sessions. This new addition will provide 100 MBBS seats and offer aspirants further opportunities to pursue their medical aspirations.

Final Thoughts:

The release of the OJEE 2023 final merit list for MBBS/BDS admissions is a significant milestone for aspiring medical students in Odisha. With the counselling process now underway, qualified candidates have the chance to secure their seats in prestigious medical institutions. This equitable and transparent allocation system ensures that both state and national candidates have a fair shot at achieving their dreams of becoming medical professionals. As the counselling process progresses, candidates should stay updated with the latest information to make informed decisions about their future in the medical field. Here’s wishing all the aspirants the best of luck in their endeavours!
