Someone has truly said “Aapni raaho par chale pathik lakshay ke saath, magar safalta le gayi dur pakad ke saath”.

Therefore, like the drops of the ocean must go, be vapor and rain into the world, the Indians rise out of India and share their gifts with the entire planet”.  First, we are Indians and our heritage and culture are what enriches us to go out into the world and embrace it.

To mark this, on January 09, people in India observes Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) or Non-resident Indian (NRI) day. The day marks the engagement and contribution of the Overseas Indian community with the Government of India and reconnects them with their roots. The day has a great significance as on this day Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi, returned from South Africa in 1915 and later led the Indian freedom movement.

PBD conventions take place every year since 2003. Back in 2015, the format of PBD was revised, in which it was decided that PBD will be celebrated once every two years and also to keep it as a theme-based conference every year during the interim period. It was also decided that the Indian community living overseas such as experts, policymakers, and stakeholders will also participate in the event.
