Republic Day is a momentous occasion in Indian history since it was on this day that India adopted its own Constitution and announced its own laws. The British colonial Government of India Act (1935) was ultimately repealed, and India was given a new lease on life.

History of Republic Day.
India did not have its own constitution when it gained independence. The laws were based on the English common law system and a modified version of the British government’s “Government of India Act, 1935.” Dr. BR Ambedkar was appointed as the chairman of a Drafting Committee to draught the Indian Constitution two weeks later. On November 26, 1949, often known as “Constitution Day,” the Indian Constitution was finally completed and adopted. After two months, on January 26, 1950, the Constitution went into effect. At its Lahore session on December 19, 1929, the Indian National Congress issued a historic resolution of “Purna Swaraj,” or complete self-rule. The Congress party declared that the Indians will celebrate “Independence Day” on January 26, 1930. On the banks of the Ravi river in Lahore, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, President of the Congress Party, hoisted the tricolor. For the next 17 years, this day was known as Poorna Swaraj Day.
When the Indian Constitution was adopted on November 26, 1949, many people thought it was important to commemorate and enforce the document on January 26, a day associated with national pride. Celebration of Republic Day this year
On January 26, President Ram Nath Kovind will lead the nation in commemorating the 73rd Republic Day. The 75th anniversary of India’s independence is being marked as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ across the country, making this year’s events even more meaningful. The Ministry of Defence has scheduled a few new events for the main parade on Rajpath on January 26 and the ‘Beating the Retreat’ celebration at Vijay Chowk on January 29.
Every year from now on, the Republic Day celebrations will last a week. The celebrations will begin on January 23, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday, and end on January 30, Martyrs’ Day.
The National Flag will be unfurled, followed by a 21-gun salute and the National Anthem. President Ram Nath Kovind will give a salute at the start of the parade. The parade schedule has changed for this year. To guarantee better visibility, the parade at Rajpath will begin at 10.30 a.m., rather than the earlier time of 10 a.m. The procession will also include the winners of the highest gallantry medals. The awardees of the Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra are among them.
The launch of the National Cadet Corps’ ‘Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman’ program, a grand flypast by 75 Indian Air Force aircraft and helicopters, cultural performances by 480 dancers selected through a nationwide Vande Bharatam dance competition, a display of 10 scrolls each measuring 75 meters prepared during the ‘Kala Kumbh’ event, and the installation of 10 large LED screens are among the new events planned for the main parade. A drone show with 1,000 indigenously built drones has been planned for the Beating the Retreat ritual.
The Republic Day parade will feature 21 tableaux, including floats from 12 states and nine ministries or government departments. The flypast, the parade’s grand finale, and the most eagerly anticipated component will feature 75 Indian Air Force planes and helicopters performing a variety of formations for the first time. For the first time, the IAF and Doordarshan have collaborated to show cockpit videos during the flyover.
The National Anthem will be performed, followed by the release of tricolor balloons.
On the eve of the 73rd Republic Day, President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the nation, urging citizens to adopt the precautions recommended by scientists and professionals in the fight against the Covid outbreak. Kovind said in an interview
‘In the fight against the Covid pandemic, it has now become a sacred national duty of every citizen to follow the precautions suggested by our scientists and experts. We have to discharge this duty till the crisis is behind us’. He also added ‘“As the pandemic is still widespread, we must remain alert and not let our guard down. The precautions we have taken till now have to be continued. Wearing masks and maintaining social distancing have been essential parts of Covid appropriate behavior’.
COVID-19 contingency plans and protections
To watch the live event online, people must first register on the MyGov platform. In the public choice category, they will be able to vote for the best marching contingent and tableau.
Only double-vaccinated adults and single-dose vaccinated youngsters aged 15 and over will be allowed to enter the procession on Rajpath. Those under the age of 15 will not be permitted to participate. Masks are required, and all social distance conventions will be maintained. There will be no foreign contingent this year due to the pandemic.
Recipients of the Padma awards
On the eve of Republic Day, the Centre published the list of Padma award recipients on Tuesday. The Padma Vibhushan has been given to former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh and the first Chief of Defence Staff, late General Bipin Rawat. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, and SII MD Cyrus Poonawalla will all get the Padma Bhushan.
