“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you until it seems that you cannot hold on for a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time when the tide will turn.”

Harriet Beecher Stowe

Feeling motivated all the time while studying or preparing for exams is not an easy thing to attain. There are days when you might feel puffed up and ready to achieve a lot but then, there are also days when you feel so overwhelmed and strained that you even find difficult to gather energy to wake up in the morning or study even a single chapter.

The journey of studying often seems like a roller-coaster of emotions but it is absolutely normal and viable to feel that way. However, what needs more consideration is the fact that you shouldn’t divulge into these feelings for long and let it divert you from your goals.

So, here are few ways to motivate you to study well when you are feeling uninspired:

  • Schedule your day: Make a plan a day prior of what you’re going to study the following day. Scheduling makes you less likely to procrastinate because it then becomes a tangible task that needs to be done.
  • The key is just to get started: No matter the circumstances, just sit down and start studying. Just do it. Often the hardest part is the beginning, so maybe if you simply sit down on your chair with your books, you might get going.
  • Have your own reward system: A pizza, a break to go for a walk, watching an episode of your favorite series, etc. Choose something you really want and use it as a reward after completing your study session. Create a reward system of your own would really encourage yourself to study well and effectively.
  • Customise your study spot: Whether it is your comfy chair, favorite plant or a spot you absolutely love- align your study spot with the things you admire and feel comfortable with. Doing so, will help you with minimal distractions and encourage you to complete the syllabus in hand. Use your designated study space only for studying. Make it your favorite spot so you feel motivated and inspired to turn towards it and study well.
  • Start with something easy: Studying for long can be grueling and boring, and that can be dodged by starting on a good yet easy terms. Beginning your study session with theories you already know or completing an assignment that is easy can give you the momentum to keep going. This could also give you a sense of confidence when you’re putting off studying just because you don’t know where to begin from.
  • Break it down: Thinking about doing everything at once can be overwhelming, and can kindle in you the feeling of confusion and despair. Therefore, break down your syllabus into small chunks and only focus on one subject at a time. Just be in the moment without having to think about anything other than the part of the syllabus in front of you.
  • Remember your “why”: Think about the reasons for your study. Why did you bein in the first place? What is it that you want to achieve? Do you want to get a good rank in JEE/ NEET and grab a seat in you favorite college? Do you want to make your parents proud? Whatever your why is, keep coming back to it every time you don’t feel like studying.

It maybe a bit hard and stressful most of the time to study, but know that this won’t last forever. One day, you will achieve all that your heart desires. A little sacrifice and hard work today can make a huge difference tomorrow. So, just keep moving forward and study well.
