In a bid to foster the mental well-being of students gearing up for the 2024 board exams, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has kickstarted its annual psychological counselling initiative. The program, which commenced on January 1, is designed to empower students and parents with tools and techniques to effectively navigate the challenges of exam stress. As practical exams for CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 began on the same day, the theory exams are scheduled to commence on February 15, 2024.

This psychological counselling endeavor will unfold in two phases – first, offering support before the examinations, and second, providing guidance after the results are declared. With this being the 26th year of the CBSE conducting such a program, the board continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring the holistic well-being of students affiliated with CBSE schools.

The announcement of the annual psychological counselling’s initiation emphasizes the CBSE’s proactive engagement with students through various online platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. Over the years, the board has leveraged these platforms not only to disseminate crucial information but also to connect with students on a personal level.

The CBSE’s approach involves delivering audio-visual content covering a spectrum of youth-related topics, such as experiences, aggression, depression, internet addiction disorder, examination stress, specific learning disabilities, substance use disorders, and life skills to cope with them. This multimedia content serves as a valuable resource for students and parents alike.

Key Features of the CBSE Counselling Program:

  1. IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System): The counselling program offers students and parents 24/7 access to IVRS facilities. By dialing the board’s toll-free number, 1800-11-8004, individuals can access key contact details for CBSE offices, frequently asked questions (FAQs), stress-free exam preparation tips, and guidance on time and stress management – all available in both Hindi and English.
  2. Podcasts: The CBSE website, cbse.gov.in, hosts informative and engaging bilingual podcasts covering a diverse range of topics related to exam preparation and stress management. These podcasts provide a convenient and accessible resource for students seeking additional guidance.
  3. Tele-counselling: A team of 65 trained counsellors, special educators, and principals from CBSE schools are available for tele-counselling services. Operating from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, these experts offer personalized guidance to students. Importantly, this service extends beyond India, with counsellors available in Kuwait, Nepal, Japan, and the Middle East.

Final Thoughts

As CBSE continues to prioritize the mental health of students, this comprehensive approach to psychological counselling reaffirms the board’s commitment to fostering an environment where students can face academic challenges with resilience and confidence. By blending traditional tele-counselling with modern multimedia platforms, CBSE ensures that support is accessible to students wherever they are, both within and beyond the borders of India. As the board enters the 26th year of this commendable initiative, it stands as a beacon of holistic education, transcending the conventional boundaries of academic assessments.
